The Camp Geiger ( MCB Camp Geiger ) is a base of the US Marine Corps , near the town of Jacksonville , North Carolina , on the east coast of the United States . Like Marine Corps Air Station New River and Marine Corps Base Camp Gilbert H. Johnson, the camp is part of the overall complex of Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune . The base is named after General Roy S. Geiger .

At Camp Geiger, the training facility is the infantry of the US Marine Corps ( US Marine Corps School of Infantry ) , in which all recruits from the eastern US states are formed. The task of the infantry school is to provide basic military training for recruits, both infantry and other branches of service. In addition to basic training, there are also advanced training courses for senior and officer ranks. Every year around 20,000 Marines are trained at Camp Geiger.
