The small, uninhabited rock island Vetara (also Scoglio (di) Vetara, La Falanga or Vivara or Vivaro ) is located in the Gulf of Salerno , roughly in the middle between the mainland Scoglio d'Isca and the Li Galli archipelago . It measures almost 300 by 100 meters and belongs to the municipality of Massa Lubrense in the Campanian metropolitan city of Naples .

The name Falanga refers to a 40 cm long, round piece of wood that was placed across the keel under boats on the sand and coated with grease to make it easier to pull the boats ashore.

The island, which rises up to 37 m above sea level, is a strictly protected part of the Parco Marino della Penisola Sorrentina nature reserve - entering and swimming is prohibited, as is anchoring on the island or fishing. On the submarine slopes around the island, which rises above a water depth of around 50 m, there is a lush underwater fauna that is reminiscent of the pre- shape of a coral reef .
