Isca (also Scoglio d'Isca or Galluzzo "chicken") is a small island in the Gulf of Salerno . It is located around a hundred meters off the Amalfi Coast , south of the Sorrento peninsula and belongs to the territory of the municipality of Massa Lubrense in the Campanian metropolitan city of Naples . The oval island measures around 270 by 130 meters. The semicircular south coast facing the sea rises as a steep limestone cliff to almost ten meters and has some cave formations, the absolutely vertical northern coast is more richly structured and has a height of up to 25 meters. To the southeast of the island are some boulders, various caves and grottoes at sea level are big enough to be able to visit them. Here are also the remains of an old pier, as evidenced by steps carved into the rock; today's berth is just before the north-eastern tip. The remains of a villa with a cistern from Roman times have been found on the island, and evidence of their use as a nymphaeum was found in two of the grottos .
In 1948 the Italian theater man Eduardo De Filippo acquired the island and built his summer residence on it. De Filippo's last wife, Isabella Quarantotti De Filippo , published in 2002 under the title In mezzo al mare un'isola c'è… the memories of a summer stay on the island during the fifties.
