Marine Petrosyan  ( Armenian Մարինե Պետրոսյան , Russian Маринэ Петросян ; born August 16, 1960 in Yerevan , Armenian SSR , Soviet Union ) is an Armenian poet, essayist and columnist.

Marine Petrosjan's literary career coincided with the collapse of the Soviet Union . Her first book was published in Yerevan in 1993, just two years after Armenia gained independence from the Soviet Union.

The poems of her first book were  translated into French by  Vahé Godel . In 1995 the French publisher Editions Comp'Act Petrosjan's book J'apporterai des pierres published . Encouraged by the success of the book, which was discussed very benevolently in Le Monde des Livres , among others , Editions Comp'Act published Erevan , the second book of Petrosjan, in 2003 .

Since then, Petrosyan has published another four volumes of poetry in Armenia.

In 2015 the Argentine publisher Audisea Petrosjans published  Disparó el arma with poems translated into Spanish by Alice Ter-Ghevondian. The book was presented in the  National Library of the Republic of Argentina .

Petrosjan received a writer's grant including a stay in the Djerassi Artists Residency in Woodside (California) as Artist Laureate of the UNESCO Aschberg Questur (2005); in Q21, MuseumsQuartier Wien  (2013) and in the Omi International Arts Center, New York City (2015).

Petrosyan translates her poems into English herself. Some of her self-translations can be found in Transcript - Europe's online review of international writing  and in Deviation, Anthology of Contemporary Armenian Literature .

Essayist

Petrosjan's essay Antipoesie, or When the Poet Isn't Looking for an Alibi, has sparked immense discussions in Armenian literary circles. In the essay, Petrosyan talks about "antipoesy" - poetry that doesn't look like poetry - questions the prevailing notion of poetry, and claims that it is the leading trend in modern Armenian poetry.

Marine Petrosyan is widely known as a columnist in Armenia. From 2007 to 2009, a period of strong political developments before and after the presidential election in Armenia in 2008 , she had a weekly column in the Armenian Times ( Armenian Հայկական ժամանակ Hajkakan shamanak ), the main opposition daily. Her essays on political issues reached an unexpectedly large readership and made her a person of public interest in Armenia. As a result, she was often invited on television shows to comment on public issues. Her essays were published in her book Red Poster  in 2011  . In 2007, Petrosjan received the Tigran Hajrapetjan Prize for her essay “Why doesn't the war end?” ( Armenian Ինչու չի ավարտվում պատերազմը Intschu tschi awartwum paterasme ).
