The Hjemmeværnet ( German Danish Home Guard ) is a branch of the Danish Armed Forces , which consists mainly of volunteer reservists .
history
The Hjemmeværnet was formed in 1949 mainly from members of the Danish resistance movement under the impression of the occupation of Denmark in the Second World War . The Lottekorpset (unarmed women's army corps ) was merged in 1989 with Hjemmeværnet, which until then had only been maintained by men.
Tasks and structure
The Hjemmeværnet serves to reinforce and support the army , navy and air forces in the fulfillment of their military tasks. Your intended tasks are mainly:
- Monitoring and reporting
- Guarding, security and protection services
- Limited combat duties
The Hjemmeværnet comprises the following units
- Army Home Guard ( Hærhjemmeværnet )
- Marine Home Guard ( Marinehjemmeværnet ), also takes on the role of coast guard
- Fliegerheimwehr ( Flyverhjemmeværnet )
- Company home guard ( Virksomhedshjemmeværnet )
It reports directly to the Ministry of Defense and is only directly subordinate to the military command in the event of a crisis or defense.

- 30,557 reservists
