Mario Belli Pino

Mario Belli Pino (born December 19, 1956 in Lima ) is a Peruvian chess player and teacher.

He studied at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM) in Lima .

He made his first chess appearance in 1972 at a school tournament at the age of 15. At the Peruvian Individual Championship in Lima in 1985 he was third. Since 1994 he has held the title of International Master , which he was awarded for his score of 8 points from 13 games at the 1994 Chess Olympiad in Moscow . In 1998 he won the Peruvian individual championship, in 2002 in Lima he took second place.

With the Peruvian national team he took part in six chess Olympiads ( 1988 and 1994 to 2002 ) with a positive overall result of 36.5 points from 64 chess games (+26 = 21 -17). He also took part with Peru in 1985 in the Pan American team championship in Cascavel .

His Elo rating is 2385 (as of June 2020). He would be in 16th place in the Peruvian Elo ranking, but is inactive because he has not played an Elo-rated chess game since a tournament in Lima in February 2017. His highest rating was 2430 from July 1995 to June 1996.
