Mario Galea

Mario Galea (born June 8, 1962 in Żejtun ) is a Maltese politician of the Nationalist Party and Parliamentary State Secretary.

biography

After attending school at De La Salle College, he trained as a nurse at the Training School for Nurses and was licensed as a nurse in 1983. He then worked as a nurse in the casualty and emergency department and the operating theater of St. Luke's Hospital and then Mount Carmel Hospital. He later studied nursing at the University of Malta , which he completed in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.Sc.Nursing) . In 2001 he also started part-time as an assistant lecturer in nursing and obstetrics at the Institute of Nursing at the University of Malta.

As a candidate for the Partit Nazzjonalista , he was elected member of parliament for the first time in 1992 and represented constituency 3 there . In 1996 he was unable to defend his mandate and initially resigned from parliament. Between 1996 and 1998 he was therefore the information secretary of the Nationalist Party.

In the parliamentary elections in 1998 , 2003 and 2008 he was re-elected as a member of constituency 3. From 1998 to 2008 he was also Whip of the Partit Nazzjonalista faction in the House of Representatives and was also a member of the International Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Association of the Commonwealth of Nations . He was also head of various delegations at international conferences of the Commonwealth and the European Union as well as an observer for the Commonwealth and the EU in Zimbabwe , Gambia , Liberia , Yemen , the Gaza Strip and the West Bank . Between 2004 and 2006 he was also Deputy Chairman of the Culture Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership (EUROMED) .

After the Partit Nazzjonalista narrowly won the parliamentary elections in Malta in 2008 , Prime Minister Gonzi appointed him Parliamentary State Secretary for Seniors and Care in the Office of Social Affairs Minister John Dalli and thus belongs to the extended cabinet.
