Mario Lavista
Mario Lavista (born April 3, 1943 in Mexico City ) is a Mexican composer .
biography
Mario Lavista studied from 1963 to 1967 at the Conservatory of Mexico with Héctor Quintanar and Rodolfo Halffter , then at the Schola Cantorum in Paris with Iannis Xenakis and Henri Pousseur and finally at the Cologne University of Music with Karlheinz Stockhausen . Since 1969 he has taught composition at the Conservatory of Mexico. In 1970 he founded the improvisation group Quanta with other musicians . From 1970 to 1971 he worked in an electronic music studio in Tokyo . In 1987 he received a Guggenheim grant , which he used to compose the opera Aura . In the same year he became a member of the Academy of Arts, in 1998 a member of the Colegio Nacional de México . He teaches at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música .
He composed pieces for string orchestra and for string quartet, improvisations for tape, the piece Chronos for fifteen o'clock movements, a continuo for orchestra and works for chamber music ensembles. He created a graphic and musical project with the painter Arnaldo Coen . In 1995 the Missa Brevis ad Consolationis Dominam Nostram was premiered. In addition, he also composed film and television music.
He also emerged as a publicist and author: at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) he founded the music journal Talea in 1975 , and in 1982 he founded the music journal Pauta . In 1988 he published Textos en torno a la música . Among other things, he is a member of the Academia de Artes .
