Mario Liverani

Mario Liverani (born January 10, 1939 in Rome ) is an Italian ancient orientalist and was professor at La Sapienza University in Rome from 1973 until his retirement in 2011 .

Liverani holds honorary doctorates from the Universities of Copenhagen and Madrid and a member of important associations in the field of ancient oriental studies, including the American Oriental Society . He has been a member of the Accademia delle Scienze di Torino since 2000 and a corresponding member of the Accademia dei Lincei since 2001 . He is best known for his work on the political history of the late Bronze Age.
