Marion Merklein

Marion Merklein (born May 4, 1973 in Nuremberg ) is a German engineer . She is a professor at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg . Marion Merklein developed a shaping process for light metals that improves industrial production chains in automotive, rail and air transport.

Live and act

Marion Merklein graduated in 1997 with a degree in materials science from the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg . In 2001 she did her doctorate with the topic “Laser beam forming of aluminum materials - influencing the microstructure and mechanical properties”. She completed her habilitation in 2006 in the field of production technology with the habilitation thesis "Characterization of sheet metal materials for lightweight construction". Merklein then received three appointments and has been head of the chair for manufacturing technology at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität since 2008 .

Research priorities

Merklein's research topics lie at the interface between materials science and manufacturing technology . She has published more than 300 scientific papers and received numerous awards.
