The Marion Tarn is a lake on the island of Heard in the southern Indian Ocean . It is located about 400 m west of the Stephenson Lagoon and was created as a result of the strong retreat of the Stephenson Glacier .
The lake is named after the steam-powered corvette USS Marion , which rescued the survivors of the sinking of the whaling ship Trinity , stranded on Heard on January 12, 1882 after 452 days .
