Mark Burgess (born May 11, 1960 in Manchester ) is a British songwriter, musician and singer.

biography

Mark Burgess began his musical career in 1981 as the co-founder and front man of the British post-punk band The Chameleons . When the group broke up after the release of three studio albums in 1987, he started the short-lived project The Sun And The Moon with his previous bandmate John Lever and the musicians Andy Clegg and Andy Whitaker . In 1988 the album Le Soleil, La Lune , was released, accompanied by two singles and an EP (the compilation The Great Escape , published in 1999, is a re-release of the album together with bonus tracks from the singles and the EP).

Burgess then pursued a solo career, the first album Zima Junction with his companion band The Sons Of God was released in 1993. In addition to John Lever, the musician Yves Altana was involved, with whom Burgess worked closely in the following years. In 1995 they recorded the album Paradyning together . The Invincible project , which released the record Venus in 1999, was largely supported by Burgess and Altana.

Mark Burgess is a close friend, huge advocate, and supporter of The Convent band . He produced parts of the first (1993) and the entire second album (1994). Altana worked on the third album (1996).

In 2000 there was a reunion of The Chameleons , after two years, the band split again. Burgess then went on tour with the Bird project . In 2004 the compilation Magic Boomerang was released , which illuminated the musician's various creative periods. In 2007 Burgess published his autobiography View From A Hill . Between 2007 and 2010 the Briton was also involved in the creation of the first three albums of the group Black Swan Lane .

From 2009 Burgess and Lever played concerts under the name ChameleonsVox , at which they presented the old The Chameleons songs live with other guest musicians (including Altana) . In November 2013, Burgess released four new tracks on the EP M + D = 1 (8) with this project , already without lever on the drums, who died on March 13, 2017. The current line-up of ChameleonsVox consists of Burgess (vocals / bass), Yves Altana (drums), Neil Dwerryhouse (guitar) and Chris Oliver (guitar).
