The Markgrafenteich (also called Oberer Markgrafenteich) is an artificially created reservoir east of the town of Selb in the Wunsiedel district in the Fichtel Mountains , near the state border with the Czech Republic. It is part of an extensive pond chain, consisting of the Upper and Lower Markgrafenteich, Erlteich, Schützich, Breitem Teich, Steinfurter Teich and Langer Teich. The Margrave pond is located in an extensive forest area on the Nordweg, a main hiking trail of the Fichtelgebirgsverein , which leads from Selb to the Ostweg on the Czech border.
Surname
The pond is named after the former owners, the Bayreuth margraves.
Economic use
The pond is managed by the Selb e. V. used for the fishing industry. In 2012, the reservoir was awarded the pond cultural asset by the Upper Franconian pond cooperative .
