The two church towers

St. Maria Himmelfahrt , also called Market Church, is the Catholic parish church of Obernzell .

The mighty structure with a cross-shaped floor plan was built from 1740 to 1745 by the Passau builder Severin Goldberger. Construction errors required changes as early as the 18th century, and the north tower could not be completed until 1896.

The length of the cross arms of the central building also corresponds to the height of the room. Only the west gallery still has stucco from the time it was built; the rest of the gallery, like the frescoes, was only added between 1888 and 1890. The stucco marble altars from 1743 and 1744 were made by Augustin Franz Kämpfl. Paul Troger painted the picture on the high altar . It shows Mary's assumption into heaven . The pulpit from 1746 was built by a master Gigl.
