Markus Becker (born March 11, 1963 in Bottrop ) is a former German football player . He played on the position of running back for the Düsseldorf Panthers in the Northwest German Football League (NFL) and in the German Football League (GFL) of the AFVD.
Career
After Markus Becker had already been kayaking for five years with KLG Düsseldorf , he changed sport in 1978 at the age of 15 and joined the newly founded American football team, the Düsseldorf Panther. There was no youth team at that time. He first played there as a tight end before moving to the running back position in 1979 . He was voted the most valuable player (MVP) of the German Bowl in 1983, 1984 and 1985 . 1985 to 1987 he played for the German national team. In 1985 he was with this third at the European Championships in Milan. In 1987 he became Vice European Champion. He managed a spectacular 92-yard kick-off-return touchdown in Finland in the opening game against the reigning European champions Finland.
In 2004 he was accepted into the Düsseldorf Panther Hall of Fame . In 2011 he was a founding member of the Alumni Panther. In 2013 he was also elected to the German Football Hall of Fame.
