Markus Schmitt (politician)

Markus Schmitt (born July 6, 1966 in St. Ingbert ) is a German politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ).

Life

After graduating from high school and training as an IT businessman, Schmitt founded an agency for project management and later a bicycle wholesaler and retailer. He is the owner of Kaufhaus Schmitt GMBH.

Schmitt has been a member of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen since 1990 and has been on the board of the St. Ingbert local association since 2005. From 2004 to 2005 he was parliamentary group leader of the Greens in the St. Ingbert city council. From 2004 to 2009 he was a member of the Saarpfalz district council and was temporarily chairman of the Greens parliamentary group and deputy district administrator. In the 14th electoral term (2009 to 2012) he was a member of the Saarland state parliament and thus a member of the government parliamentary groups . He has been the mayor of the Mittelstadt St. Ingbert since September 26, 2019 and has meanwhile been entrusted with some business areas by the mayor. He has withdrawn from his company Total Normal Bikes GmbH in order to be able to devote himself to his role as mayor of the medium-sized town of St. Ingbert. In addition, since 1.1. 2019 honorary judge at the Saarbrücken regional court.
