Markus Uhlmann

Markus Uhlmann (* 1968 ) is a German professor for fluid mechanics at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).

After studying mechanical engineering with a specialization in aerospace engineering at RWTH Aachen University from September 1988 to 1993, Markus Uhlmann attended William P. Jones' research group at Imperial College .

He completed his doctorate in April 1997 at the Laboratoire de Mécanique des Fluides et d'Acoustique of the École Centrale de Lyon with the thesis A Study of Second-Moment Turbulence Closures and Contribution towards Their Numerical Solution in Compressible Flows .

Uhlmann spent his first postdoc at ETSI Aeronáuticos at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid until October 1999. From November 1999 to February 2002, he then went to the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research , where he researched wavelets .

In August 2008 Uhlmann was appointed professor at KIT. In 2016/17 he spent a sabbatical year with Professor S. Balachandar in Florida.
