Markwart Duke

Markwart Herzog (* 1958 in Heilbronn ) is a German theologian , religious philosopher and sports historian.

Live and act

Markwart Herzog studied philosophy, theology and communication science in Munich. From 1989 to 1997 he was a research assistant in the research and study project of the Rottendorf Foundation at the Munich University of Philosophy . From 1989 he also worked for five years with Wolfhart Pannenberg at the Institute for Fundamental Theology and Ecumenism of the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . In 1995 he received his doctorate in religious philosophy. His dissertation on the interpretation of Jesus Christ's journey into hell was published in 1997 under the title Descensus ad inferos and was awarded the Richard Schaeffler Prize. From 1997 to 2009 he was a scientific educational advisor at the Schwabenakademie Irsee .

Since December 2009, Herzog has been director of the Irsee Schwabenakademie. He publishes on topics from the history of religion, sports, medicine and criminal law. His sports history work focuses on football . He is a member of the German Academy for Football Culture .

Herzog is married and has two children.
