Marmosops ojastii is a species of marsupial that occurs in northern South America in the Cordillera de Mérida and in the coastal mountains of Venezuela ( Cordillera de la Costa ) and the immediately adjacent lowlands. The species was first described in 2014 and named in honor of the Finnish zoologist Juhani Ojasti.

description

The two type specimens examined for the first description had a head body length of 9 to 9.7 cm and a 13 to 13.8 cm long tail. The weight was not determined. The fur on the back is light reddish brown and the hair in the middle of the back is 8 to 10 mm in length. The fur on the underside of the chin to the groin area and on the inside of the front and rear legs is whitish. There are no gray hair bases in the fur on the sides of the body. The front paws are light on their upper side. The tail is clearly longer than the length of the head and only indistinctly two-colored.

Compared to the slim-pouched rat species Marmosops chucha and Marmosops magdalenae , which occur in Colombia west and east of the Rio Magdalena , Marmosops ojastii is significantly lighter, probably a little smaller and has a longer tail relative to the length of the head.

habitat

Marmosops ojastii occurs from lowland rainforests to low mountain cloud forests from sea level to altitudes of 1850 meters and lives in parts or in the entire distribution area sympathetically with the closely related species Marmosops carri .
