Marpessos

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Marpessos was a small ancient Greek city (or village) in the Troas on the Hellespont in Asia Minor . It was close to Gergis on the Ida Mountains , in the region around today's Intepe on the Dardanelles in northwestern Anatolia, today's Turkey . Sometimes referred to as Marmessos in ancient literature.

In ancient times, Marpessus claimed to be the seat of the Sibyl - in a dispute with the more important city of Erythrai .
