George Robinson, 1st Marquess of Ripon

Marquess of Ripon , in the County of York , was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom . The title refers to the English city of Ripon .

Award and subordinate titles

The title was created on June 23, 1871 for George Robinson, 2nd Earl of Ripon .

On January 28, 1859, his father gave him the titles of 2nd Earl of Ripon , in the County of York (created 1833) and 2nd Viscount Goderich (created 1827), both in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. In addition, he had on November 14, 1859 from his uncle Thomas de Gray, 2nd Earl de Gray , the title 3rd Earl de Gray , of Wrest in the County of Bedford (created 1816, Peerage of the United Kingdom), 4th Baron Inherited Grantham , of Grantham in the County of Lincoln (created 1761, Peerage of Great Britain ), and 7th Baronet Robinson , of Newby in the County of York (created 1690, Baronetage of England). All of these titles were listed as subordinate titles to the Marquess and expired on the death of the 2nd Marquess on September 22, 1923.
