Marshall & Ilsley (also known as M&I Bank ) is a US credit institution headquartered in Milwaukee , Wisconsin .

The company was in 1847 under the name of Samuel Marshall & Co founded. The bank was listed in the S&P 500 share index. In 2007 the United Heritage Bankshares from Florida was bought. In January 2008, First Indiana was acquired from Indiana .

Takeover by the Bank of Montreal

On December 17, 2010, the Bank of Montreal announced that it would take over Marshall & Ilsley for $ 4.1 billion through a share swap. The takeover is expected to be completed by July 31, 2011.
