Topsail
A topsail is a sail that is attached to a yard on the Mars stalk . The topsail or submarine sail is attached to the mast in the second position from the bottom.
Due to the increase in the area of the sails during the development in shipbuilding and the better manageability of smaller sails, the topsail, like the slab sail , was divided. If there is such a division, one speaks of upper and lower sail . Since there can be several masts on ships , the name of the mast is placed in front of the sail name to distinguish the sails. This results in terms such as: large topsail , cross upper topsail etc.
