Martí Joan de Galba

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Martí Joan de Galba († 1490 ) was a Catalan aristocrat and co-author of the Valencian knight epic Tirant lo Blanc . The main author of the work, Joanot Martorell , was a friend of Galba and entrusted the unfinished work to him shortly before his death in early 1465. Galba completed and revised the work based on the notes and sketches left by Martorell. The exact share of Galba in the epic is unclear, it is assumed that he wrote about the last quarter and also revised the previous original text himself in some places, especially the episodes set in North Africa are attributed to Galba. Shortly after Galba's death, the epic was finally published in 1490.
