Mart Meri (born February 15, 1959 in Tallinn ) is an Estonian linguist and politician .

Career

Meri was born as the son of the writer and later President Lennart Meri and his wife Regina and went to school in Tallinn. After graduating from high school in 1977, he began studying Estonian Philology at the University of Tartu, graduating in 1982 with a diploma.

Professional activities

From 1996 to 2006 he was editor-in-chief of the magazine Keel ja Kirjandus , then he took over the management of the Estonian Institute from 2007 to 2011. Today he is still a member of the board of the institute.

Political activity

Meri is a member of the Estonian Social Democratic Party and was a member of the Riigikogu from 1999-2003, 2006 and 2011-2015 .
