The Martello Tower is a 10 m high rock formation on King George Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . The rock rises 3 km north-northwest of Lions Rump on the shores of King George Bay .
Scientists from the British Discovery Investigations mapped it in 1937 and named it descriptively after the Martello Tower , a special form of fortifications built during the Napoleonic Wars .
