history
The Cree moved to the region at an unknown time. At the end of the 19th century, logging companies began to cut down the vast forests (especially Weymouth pine ('White Pines')). Today only a single 300 year old Weymouth pine stands in the park.
The Cree Nation of Mistissini , which already lives in neighboring Québec , and which emerged from Nitchequon, Neoskweskaau and a few Nemaska from around the 1930s, also used the region, for example for fishing.
