Martin Luther Church (Felgeleben)
The Martin Luther Church is the Protestant church in the village of Felgeleben, part of the town of Schönebeck (Elbe) . Only the steeple remains of the church.
Architecture and history
It is assumed that previous buildings of today's church already existed in the Romanesque period . In the basement of the tower there is still an octagonal baptismal font with a Romanesque ornament band.
After the place was desolate for a long time, at least from 1414 and was not settled again until 1541, a new parish church was built on the Romanesque substructure from 1578. The new church was built as a rectangular hall building. In 1616 the barby Count Wolfgang Friedrich had a church tower built. Like most of the town, this church building was probably destroyed during the Thirty Years' War .
In 1734 a new, small, plastered building was built on a rectangular floor plan. Of this, only the church tower, originally to the west of the nave, including the hood and lantern, has survived today. The ship was demolished in 1989.
