Martin Luther Church

The Martin Luther Church is an Evangelical Lutheran church in the Oker district of the city of Goslar .

history

The congregation in Oker was initially a branch of the Harlingerode congregation and became independent on October 16, 1881 with the introduction of Pastor Carl Justus Wilhelm Breymann. Because of the increasing growth, the St. Paulus parish in Unteroker was founded in 1956. In 2005 the two parishes were reunited with a pastor's position for cost reasons.

The foundation stone for the church building, a single-nave hall church with a double gallery, was laid on May 10, 1823. The church tower was completed in 1830. The inauguration could not take place until 1836. The organ from 1841 with originally 13 voices is the work of the Herzberg organ builder Johann Andreas Engelhardt .

A thorough renovation took place after the Second World War. When it was re -consecrated by Regional Bishop Martin Erdmann , the church was given the name "Martin Luther Church". The organ, which is now a listed building, whose original structure from 1841 has been completely preserved, was expanded to 18 stops and two manuals in 1962 and restored in 1985.

Chimes

The church had two bells until the First World War, the larger of which was melted down during the war for armament purposes. A replacement bell procured after the war was also melted down in 1942. A new bell was purchased in 1955 and has operated with an electric bell since then. In 1965 the peal was completed by a third bronze bell.
