Martin "Dolph" Albrechtsen (born March 31, 1980 in Værløse ) is a Danish football player . He is currently under contract with FC Midtjylland in the Danish Superliga , and has already played four times in the national dress for Denmark . His younger brother Jacob Albrechtsen plays for FC Copenhagen.

Career

Albrechtsen began his career at the Akademisk Boldklub . He played there with Peter Løvenkrands , and both were appointed to the Danish U-19 national team. In February 1998 both signed their first professional contract. Albrechtsen won the Danish Cup in 1999 and was named Danish U-21 Talent of the Year in 2000. For the Danish national soccer team he was nominated by Morten Olsen in April 2001. In January 2002 he moved to FC Copenhagen , where he signed a four-year contract. In Copenhagen he won the championship title in 2003 and the double the following year.

In June 2004 he moved abroad to the English club West Bromwich Albion which played in the Premier League . After four years at West Brom, he moved to Derby County on a free transfer , where he signed for two seasons, but only stayed one season.

Since 2009 he has been back in Denmark for FC Midtjylland .

Trivia

Albrechtsen's nicknames are Dolph and He-Man due to its resemblance to the Swedish actor Dolph Lundgren .
