Martin Algus

Martin Algus (born December 23, 1973 in Jõgeva ) is an Estonian playwright , actor and translator .

Life

Martin Algus graduated from high school in Jõgeva in 1992 . Until 1997 he studied at the School of Culture in Viljandi, Central Estonia . From 1997 to 2005 he worked as an actor at the Ugala Theater in Viljandi.

Martin Algus made his debut as a playwright with the two plays Janu (“Durst”) and Ise oled (“You are!”). They won the first two prizes at the Estonian New Drama Competition 2007. In 2009, his drama Postmodernsed leibkonnad (“Postmoderne Households”) was awarded at the same competition . His play Contact ("Kontakt") won the 2011 "New Baltic Drama" competition.

In addition to his work as a writer, Martin Algus works as a theater and film actor and as a translator from English and Russian. Since 2005 he has been working in an advertising company. He lives in the Kalamaja district of Tallinn .

Martin Algus is married and has one daughter.
