Martin Buschmann (born March 25, 1955 in Dortmund ) is a German musician , composer , drummer and co-founder of the association for steel drum culture Pankultur in Dortmund.

Martin Buschmann was born in Dortmund in 1955 as the son of the Dortmund composer and jazz musician Glen Buschmann . The musical training for saxophone and piano took place at the Dortmund Conservatory, the Air Force Music Corps in Münster and the NRW Youth Jazz Orchestra . He then played in various bands from the Krautrock era and at the Dortmund Theater .

With the beginning of the Steel Drum -Baus and steelpan culture in Dortmund in 1979 under the direction of Eckard Schulz (ECS steel drums) he learned the Steel Drum game and built the new instrument in the folk rock band Cochise . In 1985 he traveled with a tractor and construction trailer from Dortmund via Luxembourg and France and Spain. In 1995 he founded the Steeldrumverein Pankultur eV in Dortmund with the musician Jürgen Lesker and the steel drum maker Eckhard Schulz. In the 1990s he took part in concert tours in Europe, Asia and Latin America with the JugendJazzOrchester NRW , the band “Los Tranquilos” and the “Bäng Bäng Steel drum orchestra ”.

In 1999 he was involved in founding the "Steelpan European" organization, which in 2000 organized the first European Steelpan Festival in Paris. Martin Buschmann is a member of the "Nostalgia Steelband" from London, the oldest steel band in England. In 2001 the "Bäng Bäng Steeldrum Orchester" opened the Ruhr Theater Festival at the Zollverein colliery in Essen with a composition commissioned by Jürgen Lesker and Martin Buschmann . In 2002, 12 European steel drum orchestras took part in the 2nd European Steelpan Festival in Sète , southern France. The composition by Martin Buschmann and Jürgen Lesker, performed by the “Bäng Bäng Steeldrum Orchester”, took fifth place.
