Martin Buser
Martin Buser (born March 29, 1958 in Winterthur ) is a Swiss - American sled dog athlete .
In 1979 he emigrated to Alaska and began breeding sled dogs full-time . In 1980 he contested his first Iditarod race, in 1981 the second. Since 1986 he has participated in every race. In twenty participations, Buser won the race four times: 1992, 1994, 1997 and 2002. His first victory was also the first victory of a foreigner on the Iditarod. In the 2002 race, he also set a course record by being the first to finish the race in less than 9 days, namely in eight days, 22 hours, 46 minutes and 2 seconds. However, this was broken by John Baker in 2011. Buser has had an American passport since 2002.
His son Rohn now also takes part in the races.
