American Power Conversion ( APC ) is a US manufacturer of power and cooling solutions. The services required for a secure energy supply are also offered. This also includes devices for the home and for mobile applications. The most important product area of ​​APC are uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), which are mainly used for servers and to secure buildings, tunnels, power plants, etc. The company has been a subsidiary of the French Schneider Electric group since 2007 .

history

APC was founded in 1981 by three engineers from the MIT Lincoln Labs Institute. Initially, the founders focused on researching and developing the use of solar energy. With the reduction of research funds, APC reoriented itself towards a secure energy supply and presented the first UPS in 1984.

APC generated sales of 2 billion in 2005 dollars .

Acquisition by Schneider Electric

On February 14, 2007, APC was acquired by Schneider Electric . The acquisition was accepted by the APC shareholders on January 15th; the European Union agreed to the takeover on condition that Schneider Electric surrender the MGE UPS systems activities below 10 kVA.

The MGE division for systems of less than 10 kVA was sold to Eaton Corporation on November 1, 2007 .
