Edgar Wagner

Edgar Wagner (born May 27, 1950 ) is a German lawyer . From April 15, 2007 to September 30, 2015, he was the state commissioner for data protection and freedom of information in Rhineland-Palatinate .

After studying law in Mainz and Göttingen in 1970, Wagner passed the first state examination in 1976 and began his legal clerkship at the Higher Regional Court in Koblenz . After the second state examination in 1978, he became a judge at the Mainz Administrative Court. In 1980 he switched to the scientific service of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament and became its head there in 1994. In this function, Wagner was also the deputy director of the state parliament. In 2001 Wagner became head of the information services, press and public relations department.

In the plenary session on March 14, 2007, with the support of all parliamentary groups represented in the state parliament, he was elected to succeed Walter Rudolf . His term of office began on April 15, 2007. With effect from December 31, 2011, the Office of Freedom of Information Officer was also transferred to the State Commissioner for Data Protection. On June 3, 2015, Wagner was officially retired as data protection officer because his term of office expired on April 15. He remained in office on a provisional basis until his successor Dieter Kugelmann was established and replaced him on October 1, 2015.
