Martin Jacob Premsela
Martin Jacob Premsela (born January 25, 1896 in Amsterdam ; † July 27, 1960 there ) was a Dutch author, Romance scholar and translator.
life and work
Premsela grew up in Antwerp , but returned to the Netherlands in 1914. He studied in Amsterdam and Groningen and became a high school teacher in Amsterdam. In 1934 he received his doctorate from the University of Groningen with the thesis Edmond Rostand (Amsterdam 1933). He was editor of the magazine Het Fransche Boek for many years and was in contact with many French authors whom he served as a translator.
Premsela wrote her own poetry and prose under the pseudonym "Martin Permys". He was friends with the author and Italianist Hermann van den Bergh (1897–1967).
