Maerzfeld is a German band that was founded in 2004 and musically can be assigned to the New German Hardship . As a parallel project was established in 2005, Rammstein - tribute band steel time .

history

After the founding in 2004, it was decided in 2005 at band rehearsals, due to the similarity of Reißenweber's voice to that of Rammstein frontman Till Lindemann , to appear as a Rammstein tribute band under the name Stahlzeit instead of composing their own music. The line-up of the two bands is identical except for the position of drummer. In 2015 keyboarder Thilo Weber left Maerzfeld, but remained active at Stahlzeit until his death on September 30, 2017.

In 2009 the members decided to lead their original band Maerzfeld parallel to Stahlzeit. At the beginning of 2011, their first maxi single Exil with three songs was released in their own production . This was followed by first appearances at the Night of the Jumps in Berlin and Hamburg and on November 17th the debut album, which was also produced in-house, called Tief .

In early 2012, the band was signed to Südpolrecords ; a new release of their debut album with revised artwork and a tour of southern Germany followed. In September, the single Die Hübschlerin , for which a music video was produced, came on the market as a download. In 2012 and 2013 the band appeared as a supporting act for Stahlmann , Eisbrecher and In Extremo, among others .

After a line-up change in which guitarist Roland Hagen, bassist Samir Elflein and drummer Thomas Buchberger-Voigt left the band (Buchberger-Voigt only left Maerzfeld) and were replaced by Mike Sitzmann, Bora Öksüz and Michael Frischbier, the recordings for the album Fremdkörper , which was released in January 2014. A music video was released for the title track of the album, Fremdkörper .

As part of Eisbrecher's “shock” tour in 2015, during which Maerzfeld appeared as support, the single Es breaks was released. The release of the album Nackt , which was planned for autumn 2015 , was postponed for an indefinite period of time in June 2015 "due to internal restructuring". In November it was announced that keyboardist Thilo Weber had left the Maerzfeld project shortly after the tour with Eisbrecher. A tour followed in the winter, which was initially supposed to accompany the album release, but after the postponement became a regular tour, on which some new songs were presented.

In the spring of 2017, the recordings for the third album began. Instead of the planned title Nackt, it was titled Unequally and was released as part of the “Himmelskörper” tour of the band Heldmaschine , for which Maerzfeld appeared as the opening act. On September 24th, Maerzfeld released a music video for the song Meine Lügen you can believe . The official release date for Ungleich was October 13th. The publication was followed in March 2018 by a Germany tour with Heldmaschine, Sündenrausch and Hemesath , which was continued in May in the opening act of Hämatom . In April the band announced that bassist Bora Öksüz was leaving the Maerzfeld project for private reasons. Korbinian Stocker was found to replace him.

On March 4th, 2019 Maerzfeld announced their fourth album Zorn , which was released on October 4th of the same year. The release was preceded by two single releases, Schwarzer Schnee and Zorn .

On April 17, 2020, the band released a newly recorded version of the song Virus (Der Gast) from their debut album in view of the COVID-19 pandemic .

On August 30, 2020, the band announced on Facebook that Mathias Sitzmann would leave the band for family reasons. Jochen Windisch will take over his post from now on.

Origin of name

The band name is derived from the March field , which served as an army meeting place under the Merovingians . The name should also symbolize a field that must be processed and maintained every year in March; the band sees this as a metaphor for life in which one can only achieve one's goals through effort and work. The ambiguity of the name in relation to the March field under the National Socialists was chosen deliberately to protest against the mostly immediate association of German history with the Third Reich .

style

On the debut album Tief , the band was still musically oriented towards Rammstein; On their second album, Fremdkörper , the Rammstein influences are still present, but less prominent. On the third album, Ungleich , the band moves away from the typical elements of the New German Hardship and increasingly relies on elements from electro-industrial . The lyrics, which are all written by the singer Helfried, are often inspired by personal experiences, world events and stories that are told by guests during his work as a bartender and often contain criticism of society.
