Nemesea is a Dutch band that was founded in Groningen in 2002 and is occasionally subordinated to the collective term Gothic Metal , without corresponding to the original style.

history

The band was founded by Manda Ophuis and Hendrik J. de Jong at the Conservatory in Groningen. After the line-up and three demo songs had been recorded, the band made their debut as support for After Forever . The band then went under contract to Ebony Tears, a local record label, in late 2003 and produced their first album Mana , which was released in February 2004. Nemesea is the first band on the website SellaBand 50,000 US dollars could collect, making the second album In Control was recorded and produced. On May 19, 2007 the band announced that their keyboardist Berto Booijink had already decided at the beginning of the year to leave the band. Finally Lasse Dellbrugge joined as a new keyboardist. In September 2009 the live album Pure Live @ P3 was released. It was recorded in Purmerend in July 2009 . On March 14, 2011, the band announced that they had split up with their drummer. Frank van der Star was introduced as the successor. In the spring of 2016, the band released their fourth studio album Uprise , with which they finally parted with their metal roots and instead developed in the direction of alternative rock. On August 1, 2016, the separation of singer and founding member Manda Ophuis was announced after 14 years together, who decided to give her professional life top priority. As part of the search for a successor, according to a posting by the webzine sounds2move.de, an open casting will also take place in autumn, with the magazine referring to comments made by the band on their Facebook page.

style

The first album Mana can be assigned to symphonic metal , which is reflected in the music and lyrics. While the guitar provides the necessary hardness, the genre-typical choir and string sounds are used in addition to electrical sounds, which often - as in the pieces Lucifer and Threefold Law - form the riff and the guitar is only used as a rhythm instrument.

On the album In Control the band got rid of the metal riffs as well as the strings and the choir and created a sound that is more to be assigned to alternative rock with electronic echoes. This style is continued on the album The Quiet Resistance .
