Night of the Jumps

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Night of the Jumps is an international series of freestyle motocross events.

The series, which also includes the official FIM ( Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme ) World Championship in Freestyle Motocross (FMX for short), is touring worldwide and took place in 21 countries by 2015, including Brazil , Namibia , China and Latvia .

program

The event is divided into the three disciplines Best Whip , Highest Air and Freestyle Motocross , rated according to the difficulty of the performed tricks.

In Freestyle Motocross , which makes up the majority of the event, the best rider is chosen according to the difficulty of the tricks he performs, which are jumped off a jump ramp and landed on a landing hill. In the jumps, which are often more than 12 m high and 24 m wide, the riders perform tricks such as backflips and numerous figure variations on the motorcycle.

The Best Whip Contest selects the driver who performs the best Whip. A whip is a movement in which the machine is turned sideways in the air so that it is perpendicular to the direction of flight. The winner of the Whip Contest is usually the driver whose machine makes the strongest turn across the direction of flight, ie whose machine is "whipped" the most.

In the Highest Air competition, as the name suggests, the highest jump on a motorcycle is rated. Often these jumps break the 10 meter mark, the world record is 11.50 m.

Rating

After completion of the driver training, the judges (called "judges") set the number of jumps and a time limit. As a rule, the best seven jumps, which are shown in 70 seconds, are evaluated in the qualification and the best nine jumps in 90 seconds are evaluated in the final.

This definition is primarily used for the safety of the drivers in order to give them enough time in which to show the number of required jumps. After the regular driving time has expired, each driver has the opportunity to do an additional jump, the so-called "double-up".

The NOTJ rating system is divided into two categories. In the first part, each rider receives a score of zero to ten points for each jump and for the extra jump, the "Double Up", the rider can receive up to 20 additional points.

In the second part of the scoring system, the judge assigns a score for “Track use”, “Variation” and “Personal impression”.

With "track use", the driver has the opportunity to increase his number of points by up to ten points for each judge by making good use of the existing route and ramps.

In the evaluation part "Variation" there are up to ten further points per judge if the driver shows very varied tricks and does not repeat any trick.

At the end, each judge has another 20 points available for the "Personal Impression". The overall impression of the run is assessed here. Safe landings, fluent sequence of tricks, expression, etc. are included in the evaluation.

According to the evaluation criteria listed above, each of the five judges submits their evaluation in the form of a total number of points. To ensure fairness, the highest and lowest scores are deleted. The three remaining results are added to a total number of points.
