Career

Ackermann at the Night of the Jumps 2016 in Berlin

Luc Ackermann was introduced to motocross by his older brother Hannes Ackermann . In 2005 he began his first attempts in freestyle; unlike most motocross athletes, Ackermann started straight away with freestyle and did not find his way through racing. Just a year later, he landed his first backflip on the minibike.

In 2009 he took part in the German Flight Club series and caused excitement in the German FMX scene with a 6th place overall. In 2010 he was able to top this success and took 4th place. Stefan Raab became aware of Ackermann and invited him to his show TV Total in the same year because he had set a world record with the "youngest motorcycle backflip" at the Night of the Jumps in Cologne in October 2010 . At the age of 12, Ackermann was the youngest freestyle motocross rider to do that.

In addition to his success with the Night of the Jumps series in 2012, Luc set another hallmark of his talent at the Flight Club in Biberach an der Riss . Here he showed a spectacular run with many backflip combinations and landed at the top of the podium for the first time. In the annual overall ranking of the MAXXIS Highest Air Contest of the Night of the Jumps , which was introduced in 2012, Ackermann landed sensationally in second place behind world record holder Massimo Bianconcini . In the same year at the Night of the Jumps in the Kölnarena , Ackermann fell heavily from a height of 9.50 m, crashed his bike onto the landing ramp and broke his shoulder blade in the process . Before this jump he jumped over the 9.00 meter mark and set his second world record. No freestyle motocross rider of his age has ever jumped this high on a motocross motorcycle .

Since 2014, Ackermann has officially been allowed to take part in the Freestyle Contest of the Night of the Jumps (European and World Cup). In the same year he finished 4th at the Red Bull X-Fighters in Munich. As a 16-year-old, it is the best result that a German driver has achieved in the history of the Red Bull X-Fighters series.

At the start of the 2015 season, Ackermann was able to set a first exclamation mark with fourth place at the Night of the Jumps in Linz and Graz ( Austria ). In the Munich Olympic Hall , he won the Lifeproof Best Whip Contest at the Night of the Jumps . In his first contest on the American continent, he took first place at the Xpilots in Monterrey ( Mexico ). His first podium places at the Night of the Jumps came in second and third at the European Championship finals in Hamburg. With that he secured the Vice European Championship.
