Martin Joseph Savelsberg

Martin Joseph Savelsberg (born November 11, 1814 in Aachen ; † June 7, 1879 there ) was a German high school teacher and classical philologist .

Life

Born on November 11, 1814 in Aachen, he attended the local grammar school there until 1835 and then studied theology in Bonn and Berlin, and later philology. On August 2, 1841, he received his doctorate in Berlin. phil. After several years of teaching at the high schools in Cologne and Bonn, he was appointed to the Kaiser-Karls-Gymnasium in Aachen on October 1, 1852 , where he worked as a senior teacher and professor for 27 years until his death.

A few months before his death on June 7, 1879, Savelsberg was one of the initiators who, under his leadership, launched a call to the Aachen citizenship to found the Aachen History Association on March 20, 1879 , whose constituent meeting he was able to attend on May 27, 1879 .
