Martin Klein (born June 22, 1983 in Innsbruck ) is an Austrian songwriter and pianist.

Life

Martin Klein grew up in Innsbruck and has been active as a musician since he was 15. His family comes from Transylvania. His cousin is the author Stefan Klein, his grandfather was the Germanist Karl Kurt Klein . At the age of 19, Martin Klein moved to Vienna and later to Utrecht (Netherlands), where he studied piano with the blind Dutch pianist Bert van den Brink .

Inspired by the lively Dutch songwriting scene, he began to write songs himself, returned to Vienna and recorded his debut album "Songs for my piano" there.

After this CD release his songs "Don't let it get you down" and "On my way to you" got massive airplay on the alternative radio station FM4. Der Falter wrote of a "Thom Yorke without an art backpack and a Maximilian Hecker without an ivory tower", the standard of "sensitive and obsessive art" and the Music Information Center Austria of one who is undoubtedly one of the most hopeful representatives of the local singer / songwriter scene .

Between 2007 and 2010 the musician played at the Storm Club London, the Austrian Cultural Forum London, at the Tschirgart Jazz Festival as support for Sophie Hunger, at the Radiokulturhaus Vienna and at the Salzburg Festival.

In 2010 two more singles appeared. "Your Heart Has Gone" and "Did I Ever Let You Know". The latter was released by Sony Music on the FM4 Soundselection 22.

In November 2011 his second album "Lass uns haben" was released on Traumton Records in Berlin. With this album he returned to his roots and dedicated himself to his songs in a simple solo line-up. The songs were recorded live in the studio without overdubbing. The CD was presented at the Chansonfest Berlin and in the Konzerthaus Vienna.

Bayern 2 chose "Let's stay" as their music favorite, FM4 wrote of "a work that is not only musically but also humanly impressive" and the German specialist magazine Jazzthetik located "dream-lost little masterpieces". The largest German MP3 blog Tonspion even wrote: "When real life meets the dream worlds of a poet. This is how music should be".

In spring 2013 the musician released the experimental album "Tracks for My Keyboards". The daily newspaper Die Presse wrote about it: "The secular beauty of songs like" Vienne "and" Cello Song "shows how little Klein is impressed by the makeshiftness of life. His dreams seem more real than all reality. His utopia tries nothing less than to undo the disenchantment of the world. "

In September 2013 the New Yorker Nycrophone wrote: "If you love the piano and captivating melodies, definitely familiarize yourself with his music!" In 2014 the musician composed the music for the film "The child in the box", which won the audience award at the Diagonale film festival.

His fourth album, "Das Leben meant well mit uns", which was released in November 2015, was nominated for the German Record Critics' Prize.
