Martin Kuba (born April 9, 1973 in České Budějovice ) is a Czech politician and has been the acting chairman of his ODS party since June 17, 2013 . Previously, he was a member of the Petr Nečas government as minister of economy.

Career

After graduating from high school, Cuba studied medicine at the Charles University in Prague , where he also received his doctorate in 2002. He then worked as a doctor in his hometown České Budějovice (Budweis). In 2003 he joined the ODS and in 2006 was elected to the city council and the magistrate of České Budějovice. In 2008 he was elected to the parliament of the South Bohemian Region, where he was elected to the regional council and first deputy to the governor (Hejtman) within the framework of a coalition between the stronger ČSSD and ODS .

In 2010, Cuba ran unsuccessfully for the role of deputy party chairman of the ODS. On November 16, 2011, the Czech President Václav Klaus appointed him to his government as Minister for Industry and Trade at the suggestion of Prime Minister Petr Nečas, and he succeeded his party colleague Martin Kocourek, who had resigned due to allegations of corruption .

In November 2012, he replaced Miroslava Němcová as the first deputy party leader. After Prime Minister Petr Nečas resigned from all offices on June 17, 2013, Cuba took over provisional leadership of the party.
