Martin Robra

Martin Robra (* 1954 in Celle ) works in the World Council of Churches (WCC) as an advisor to the general secretary.

Live and act

Supported by the German National Academic Foundation, he studied theology, text linguistics and philosophy in Kiel, Münster and Bochum. He was pastor of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia in Bochum and Witten . His dissertation on ecumenical social ethics was accompanied by the former general secretary of the WCC Konrad Raiser .

In 1994 he started working for the WCC, initially responsible for work on ethics and ecology . His work included accompanying the climate change program and the Ecumenical Water Network. He was also responsible for the WCC's activities on genetic engineering and nanotechnology . From 2007 to 2012 he was director of the program unit “WCC and Ecumenical Movement in the 21st Century” and intermittently director of the program unit “Unity and Mission” and secretary of the Joint Working Group on Joint Study and Dialogue between the WCC and the Roman Catholic Church . After the 2013 WCC assembly in Busan, he also supports the Staff Group for the Pilgrimage of Justice and Peace.

Robra has published articles and books in English and German.
