Martin Völschow (the first)

Martin Völschow , also known as Martin Völschow I to distinguish it from other successors of the same name , (* in the 15th century; † 1546) was a councilor from Greifswald and ancestor of a branching council family from West Pomerania.

Life

Martin Völschow is said to have been the son of a Martin Völschow zu Gützkow . In 1506 he was the first of his family to be councilor of Greifswald and remained councilor until his death in 1546. In 1526 he bought a house on the fish market near Greifswald's town hall .

Martin Völschow was the progenitor of a family represented by eleven members in the Greifswald council and four members in the Stralsund council. He was married to Gertrud, a daughter of Henning Hunsted. The couple had three sons, Johann, Henning and Martin, and daughters Gertrud and Katharina.

The three sons acquired the citizenship of Greifswald in 1545.

Son Johann († 1560) became a councilor in Greifswald and was married to Anna Stevelin, a daughter of the mayor Johann Stevelin († 1518). Their son Martin III. (1546–1613) became mayor of Greifswald in 1607.

Henning's son became a businessman in Greifswald and was married to Margareta Hannemann.

Son Martin II († 1590) was councilor in Greifswald from 1561 until his death. His first marriage was to Elisabeth, daughter of the mayor M. Burchard Beckmann, and the second to Regina, daughter of the councilor Joachim Engelbrecht.
