Martin Waser

Martin Waser (born March 14, 1954 in Winterthur ) is a Swiss politician ( SP ). From 2002 to 2014 he was a member of the Zurich City Council .

biography

Martin Waser spent his childhood and school days in his hometown Winterthur. He also attended the commercial high school there. He moved to Seebach in the city of Zurich in 1974 . Between 1974 and 1987 he moved within the city of Zurich first to Oerlikon and then to Schwamendingen and finally in 1987 to Affoltern , where he still lives today. Between 1974 and 1995 he worked as a real-world teacher. After that he was self-employed and worked on projects for urban development as well as for education and social issues. He was co-leader in the project "Partially Autonomous Elementary Schools" and a trainer in several non-profit organizations. Before his election to the city council, Martin Waser was deputy head of the cantonal elementary school office. He lives with his wife in Affoltern. Martin Waser is the father of two grown sons.

Political activity

He was active in left-wing political organizations from the age of 16. In 1991 he became a member of the Social Democratic Party (SP). In 2002 he was elected to the executive branch of the city of Zurich and since 2008 he has been head of the social department. He was no longer available for the 2014 elections.

In September 2013 Martin Waser made a name for himself because he took over the guarantee for the deficit of 120,000 francs from his private assets for the realization of the art project of installing a harbor crane on the Limmat.
