Martin Wrede

Martin Wrede (* 1969 ) is a German historian . He teaches as a professor of early modern history at the University of Grenoble .

Life

Martin Wrede studied history and Romance studies at the universities of Marburg , Nantes and Münster from 1990 to 1996 , which he completed with the first state examination. In 2001 he was at the University of Osnabrück with the work of Ronald G. Asch and Heinz Duchhardt , Das Reich und seine Feinde. From 2001 to 2007 Wrede was a research assistant at the Collaborative Research Center for Cultures of Remembrance at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen . From 2007 to 2010 he was an academic advisor at the Chair of Modern History II at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen. In 2009, Wrede completed his habilitation at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen. The habilitation thesis Without fear and blame - for king and fatherland? Early modern high nobility between family honor, knight ideal and prince service was awarded the prize of the Arenberg Foundation and the prize of the Justus Liebig University of Giessen. As part of his habilitation project, he was a fellow at the Historical College in Munich from 2007 to 2008 .

In the 2010/2011 winter semester he was in the chair for the history of the early modern period at the Humboldt University in Berlin (formerly: Heinz Schilling ). In the following summer semester he was a member of the Alfried-Krupp-Wissenschaftskolleg Greifswald . He then took the chair for early modern history at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen for one year. In the winter semester 2012 he accepted a professorship for early modern history / histoire moderne at the University of Pierre Mendès France-Grenoble II (now: Université Grenoble-Alpes), which he still holds today. In the winter semester 2013 he was visiting professor in Freiburg at the Collaborative Research Center Heroes - Heroizations - Heroisms , in September 2014 KFW Fellow at the German Historical Institute in Paris . During the 2017/18 academic year, Wrede is a Senior Fellow at the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg Greifswald.

In his research, Wrede deals with the history of political culture in early modern Europe, in particular with the European nobility, the early modern monarchy, Franco-German relations and political enemy images.
