Martin von Neugebauer

Martin von Neugebauer (born October 23, 1670 in Danzig , † 1758 in Stralsund ) was a Swedish diplomat and chancellor in Swedish Pomerania .

Martin Neugebauer was the son of a Danzig merchant of the same name, his mother's name was Maria Block. In his youth he devoted himself to the sciences and especially to languages. In 1699 he got a job as a private tutor to Tsarevich Alexei of Russia , where he worked until 1703. In 1704 he joined the Swedish army as a volunteer. Later he was appointed chamberlain . In 1709 he was sent first to Bender and then to the Sublime Porte in Istanbul . There he should together with Stanisław Poniatowski for the Swedish King Karl XII. negotiate an alliance with the Ottoman Empire against the Russian Empire. The king appointed him extraordinary envoy to allow him access to the court of Sultan Ahmed III. to enable.

On September 15, 1709 Neugebauer was raised to the Swedish nobility. From 1711 he was a councilor in Bremen , then from 1728 chancellor in Swedish Pomerania. In 1732 he was raised to the status of Swedish baron . He was appointed Knight of the North Star Order in 1748.

He died unmarried in Stralsund in 1758 and was buried there in the Marienkirche .
