Martina Mittelberger

Martina Mittelberger (* 1967 in Bludenz , Vorarlberg , Austria ) is an Austrian writer .

Life

After graduating from the secondary school there, I trained in surveying with a focus on engineering geodesy . Since 1990 she has been working on the monitoring of slope movements in Vorarlberg. During breaks in her work, which mostly took place in winter, she traveled to India , Sri Lanka , Nepal , Tibet , Mexico , Belize , Indonesia and Patagonia, among others . The resulting travel reports led to a steadily growing readership, which ultimately led to the publication of the first texts and poetry in readings , for example in 2001 in the Theater Kosmos , in 2003 in the Theater am Saumarkt and in the Bludenzer Kulturnacht (2005 and 2016).

In 2003 she was one of the winners of the Feldkircher Poetry Prize . In 2009, her short story “The eagle has landed” was selected as one of the best 16 submissions out of over 320 entries. In October 2009 her first novel “Flurbereinigung” was published, which combines the experiences from her job with her linguistic talent. At the Germanwings Story Award 2011 , to which almost five hundred contributions were received, her story “Apollo gets a companion” won the seventh prize. At Easter 2015, the first multi-day event “Literature in the Schwärzler” took place in the Hotel Schwärzler in Bregenz. The text contributions by the twelve authors - Martina Mittelberger among them - had to contain certain key words (for example “emergency lighting”) and were presented to the audience on the last evening. The readings were broadcast by ORF. Later the texts appeared in a small book. In October 2015, Martina Mittelbergers' text “Kekse”, which was submitted on the subject of “a cheerful story”, achieved 2nd place at the 14th North Hessian Holzhäuser-Heckethaler Literature Prize. In addition, she received the audience award after the reading.

Martina Mittelberger lives in her birthplace Bludenz .
