Martinikerk (Sneek)
The Martinikerk , since the Reformation Grote Kerk , is a church building in Sneek , which was under the patronage of St. Martin von Tours , who was also the patron saint of Sneek.
history
The Martinikerk was built in the 11th century. Around 1300 the church was enlarged and equipped with three towers. The church in its current form was completed in 1498. The sacristy was added in the 16th century .
In the course of the Reformation , the parish became Protestant in 1580 .
In 1681 the Romanesque west facade and the middle of the three towers collapsed. During the repair of the church, the two remaining towers were also removed. Since then the church has only had one roof turret , and its western end looks almost like an apse.
organ
One of the most important pieces of equipment is the large organ , which was built in the years 1710–1711 by the organ builder Arp Schnitger . In 1925 the pedals were placed on pneumatic cone chests. In 1988 the organ was restored by the organ builders Bakker & Timmenga (Leeuwarden) and the pedal was reconstructed to its original condition. The slider chests -instrument has 38 registers on three manuals and pedal. The playing and register actions are mechanical.
